Smoke control

The Final Report of the Competence Steering Group for Building a Safer Future, published in October 2020, defines smoke control as a: ‘Technique used to control the movement of smoky gases within a building in order to protect the structure, the contents, the means of escape, or to assist fire-fighting operations.’
Planning Gateway One - Glossary, published on the Planning Portal, defines smoke control as: ‘Measures to control the spread or movement of smoke and fire gases during a fire within a building.’
